From 25–27 June 2025, Artemis Closures proudly took part in the Aluminium Closures Group (ACG) Summer Conference, held this year in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This key annual gathering unites producers, suppliers, and stakeholders from across the industry to address the most pressing developments around aluminum closures — especially those tied to sustainability, recyclability, and the circular economy.
New Leadership for the Aluminium Closures Group
A highlight of this year’s event was the appointment of Arturo Martorelli, Chief Commercial Officer of Guala Closures, as the new Chair of the Aluminium Closures Group. Martorelli succeeds Franco Bove, who served as Chair for 14 years since the group’s founding in 2011. This leadership transition signals renewed momentum for the ACG, which today represents approximately 75% of global aluminum closure production, across wine, spirits, oils, water, and vinegar packaging sectors.
Patrick Broom (Constellium) was re-elected Vice-Chair, ensuring leadership continuity and alignment with evolving market needs.
Spotlight on the EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
A central focus of this year’s conference was the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) — a significant directive designed to streamline packaging laws across all EU countries.
Key objectives of the regulation include:
- Mandatory recyclability of all packaging by 2030
- Restrictions on unnecessary packaging
- Clear labeling and harmonization of recycling instructions
- Enforceable EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) systems across Member States
Adopted in early 2025, the PPWR will significantly impact packaging materials, waste management, and design requirements. At ACG, participants discussed how aluminum closures can continue to lead in CO₂ footprint reduction and closed-loop recyclability, while maintaining brand integrity and shelf appeal.
Sustainability as a Standard at Artemis Closures
For Artemis Closures, sustainability isn’t an added feature — it’s a fundamental principle. Our commitment is embedded across all aspects of production and supply:
- Certified production under ISO 9001, ISO 22000, BRC, and ISO 14001
- Use of solar-powered manufacturing
- Recyclable aluminum and PET materials
- Circular design thinking at the product level
As part of our mission to combine engineering precision with eco-conscious practices, our closures for wine, spirits, and edible oils deliver on both performance and responsibility — answering the call for a more sustainable future.
Looking Forward: Shaping the Future of Closures
Events like the ACG Summer Conference are essential in fostering collaboration, transparency, and shared responsibility across the industry. As the sector adapts to new legislative frameworks and shifting consumer expectations, Artemis Closures remains committed to advancing smart, sustainable solutions that work — for our partners, and for the planet.
Let’s continue building that future — together.
